Features: Clearly outlined topics and questions make the table of contents extensive, but relatively easy to use as a search tool. The figures and tables are presented in a clean, understandable, and easy to follow format, and the extensive use of color throughout the book adds to the appeal for the reader. Features such as the key concept recap, check yourself, application questions, and review questions provide a good focus for readers and a way for professors to ensure key information was understood. Completing all of the application exercises would take extensive time, but the opportunity is there for teachers to select some for possible review or potential assignments. It should be noted that there is a new version of the food guide pyramid, MyPyramid, which needsto be updated in a future edition of this book.
Assessment: The large number of references at the end of each chapter that can serve as resources for further information is a highlight of this book. This newest edition includes numerous additional references. Overall, this book is easy to follow, visually appealing, and at a concept level good for introductory college courses relating to nutrition, activity, and sport.
